Description:

Perylene Black (Green) (P.Bk 31) is a rich, deep green watercolour pigment known for its intensity and versatility. This pigment features a dark, slightly bluish-green hue that mimics the depth of natural foliage and shadows, making it an excellent choice for landscape artists and botanical illustrations. Its unique colour and transparency allow for a wide range of applications, from creating vibrant, lush greenery to subtle, muted tones.

This semi-transparent pigment produces smooth washes that can vary from bold, dark greens to soft, ethereal glazes when diluted. When used at full strength, Perylene Black (Green) delivers a striking depth that can be used to create dramatic contrasts in compositions. Its slightly cool undertone enhances its ability to mix beautifully with other colours, particularly yellows and blues, to produce a spectrum of rich, organic greens and shadowy hues.

Perylene Black (Green) boasts excellent lightfastness, ensuring that its vibrant colour remains stable and true over time. Its granulating properties add an interesting texture to washes, allowing for dynamic and organic effects, perfect for depicting natural landscapes or abstract works. This pigment is an essential tool for artists seeking to explore the richness and complexity of green tones, providing a sophisticated, natural element to watercolour palettes.

It's early days yet and I am just really getting to grips with watercolour but I have used Perylene Green to good effect with acrylic and was tempted with this watercolour version. I have used it so far in a wash for a dull green background and mixed with Permanent Alizarin Crimson for a good solid black.

Great addition to the arsenal...

I was concerned this may just be Perylene Green, but not a bit. A dark, rich, moody colour that's perfect for the shaded sides and inners of tree foliage in bright sunlight where I would probably have used a mix of Perylene Green/Paynes Grey or UM Blue/Neutral Tint (of which I have very recently discovered by way of the excellent artist Tim Wilmot).
